A personal favourite, HB Shoda Palace has a location that is hard to beat. Favoured by generations of European travellers, and tucked away behind the busy Dal Gate/ Nehru park area, Shoda commands pristine, uninterrupted views of Hari Parbat (Akbar's Fort) and the majestic Pir Pinjal mountain range which is snow capped most of the year.
The location is away from the hustle and bustle, yet not totally secluded which lends itself to a very relaxed stay watching the shikaras gliding past, the abundant bird life that inhabits the nearby sanctuary.
Shoda Palace has all the features of the classic Heritage houseboat including the Crewel curtains, gable roof detail, wood panelling, decorative khatamband ceilings and a vast collection of antiques and walnut carved furniture.
An extended decking area gives spaciousness and additional dining options with the kitchen garden nearby, perfect for long, lazy afternoon tea breaks of Kahwa and saffron teas and the delicious home cooked meals by Shahzeh (Nasir's mum). A private wooden boat can be taken out, but beware, they are not as easy to paddle as they look!
Nasir is a wonderful host, an avid fly fishing enthusiast and is happy to arrange your days adventures in Kashmir with insider info on all the great spots.
